End Hunger NE Meal Packaging

The Rotary Club of Metro Providence participates in multiple meal packaging events each year, particularly through End Hunger New England.

In April 2026, the Greater Boston Food Bank came out with its 6th annual report. In 2019, 19% of MA households were food insecure. Now, 40% are. Hunger is comparable throughout the New England region, not just in MA. To address food insecurity, End Hunger New England has sponsored over 2000 meal packaging events across New England, providing nutritious meals to local food pantries at the cost of 40 cents per meal. In over 22 years, these meals have fed nearly a billion of our neighbors.

Meals with Love

The Rotary Club of Metro Providence funded supplies and equipment for operating the Ronald McDonald House of Providence. A district grant provided significant equipment for the kitchen to support resident families and families who needed a break from their hospital visits. The club provided and continues to provide Meals with Love, made in the Ronald McDonald House kitchen, and collected “pop tops” for the House to get reimbursements from the aluminum.

Each year, nearly 300 families stay at the House with an additional 1900 families who enjoy the comforts of the Family Room. These families travel from around the world for hospitalization for their children, and often, children rehabilitate at the House. All are benefitting from the new amenities, especially those who need refrigerator access to medicated foods, plus stews/soups and other meals that use our equipment and are not provided by volunteers. However, meal preparation volunteers have already been using the equipment we have provided as well.

The grant project was completed in early April, yet the club’s commitment to the Ronald McDonald House of Providence continues.

In-meeting Service Projects

The Rotary Club of Metro Providence often has in-meeting service projects. The club has packaged hygiene kits for homeless shelters, written cards for veterans, and even got the markers and stickers out to benefit Color a Smile and Cards for Hospitalized Kids!

Welcome Home Kits

The Rotary Club of Metro Providence continues to collect new household items to populate Welcome Home Kits that benefit clients of Crossroads Rhode Island. Every year Crossroads helps individuals and families transition from homelessness to stable housing. Welcome Home Kits prepare the clients for their new home, containing essential personal care and household supplies – items that are usually in short supply when Crossroads clients move into their very own place.
